Stock Market Linked Investments
If you have chosen to retire overseas, or if you are earning overseas, then you will be wanting to make your money work as hard for you as possible. One of the, some would say alternative options that exist today is to invest into Capital Guaranteed products, many of which will be linked to a specific Stock Market.
Guaranteed Investments and Protected Funds
If you are looking for your money to provide you with a better return than just a bank account, but don’t want any risk, then you might want to consider a guaranteed investment or guaranteed fund.
There are a number of different types of these investments available for expats in the offshore environment, and they can work in different ways. The underlying aim of all of them is to offer potentially better returns than a bank account, but offer the guarantee that you will get your money back.
The return may be linked to a stock market index, or a number of indices, such as the FTSE 100 or Dow Jones, or possibly even a property index. The guarantee could state that after five years you would get at least your money back or a return linked to one of the indices.
Some funds are known as protected funds, and typically do not guarantee your initial investment in full immediately. It may for example guarantee 80 per cent of the highest value of your investment. So if you invest 100,000 GBP then the immediate guarantee is 80,000 GBP. If the fund grew to 150,000 GBP then regardless of future performance you would be guaranteed 120,000 GBP. These types of funds normally offer greater flexibility.
As these products can at times be difficult to evaluate, it is important to work with an adviser who can determine the risks for you.
These types of product have proved very popular with expats because of the lower risk. If you want to find out more please contact us.
